I was watching the 30 Rock where Tina Fey “meets Oprah” (don’t want to be a spoiler here so I’ll say no more about that…other than, as always, hilarious!) and I thought, dang it, why does Oprah have a monopoly on favorite things? Here are some of mine. I’m a blogger now, right?

I think one of my all-time favorite children’s book is one that I had when I was little (picked up from a yard sale and purchased by my grandma, natch) called “The Giant Jam Sandwich“. I found it again a few years ago (at ANOTHER yard sale) and practically peed myself, I was so psyched. Okay, maybe that was because I was very pregnant at the time. Whatever. I just saw it in board book form at Barnes and Nobles! This is NOT a common book yet, but it’s back, people! Trend alert!

The best part is the plot, which I WILL spoil. Basically, there is this town where a bunch of wasps sting everyone all the time so the people decide they need to do something. So, of course they bake a loaf of giant bread, cut two gigantic slices (they lay one on a field and hold the other in the air with helicopters and a flying tractor…see why I love this book?) and slather the “on the hill” slice with butter and jam (this involves dump trucks, shovels and for some inexplicable reason, a handstiched picnic blanket under it) . When the waps smell the jam, they all land on it and get stuck. The top slice comes down and splat! A sandwich that the birds eat for “weeks and weeks”. Also, the people eat the bread and par-tay afterwards, dancing in very 60s and 70s outfits (think Mary Quandt, not disco). It’s terrific. As LeVar Burton would say, “…bu you don’t have to take my word for it…”

RSS feed: I love, love, unhealthily-love Lifehacker. Their RSS feed might be about as un-lifehackersome as you can get because I think I read every single post and, frankly, they post a lot. In theory, I’m still saving myself time because they give such great tips, hacks and tricks. In reality, well, I still love it as the timesuck it can be. And, I get stuff there first that I don’t see anywhere else for a much longer period of time. For example, the Garfield Minus Garfield site.

In case you can’t tell, I’m really using this post to deflect from the update on my No Spend Month. We are still tabulating. There have been some grey areas…for example, should postage be included in our budget total? What about store credit we have on hand? Etc. etc. We are working out some kinks. Expect to see a proper update soon. 🙂 Possibly accompanied by tissues and pleading.
